Living for this life

Half in reference to our want to either get engaged or married at this moment, feelings-wise, but holding ourselves back because logic dictates that we are not financially stable enough (all too true), and haven't sorted out our issues such as religion, the place we want to live in, and all the other important factors.

I know that in Islam, the thereafter is considered: it is a real and promised place to all Muslims. What one does in this life affects the outcome of whether a Muslim is admitted into the promised land.

But we only live this life once. Once we pass on from this plane, what we can do, whatever possibilities to act upon anything, is gone.

In that respect, is it prudent to actually over-think and over-consider our wants for this life? our dreams? the things and ideals and life we strive for?

Do we actually want to regret things never done, dreams never attained, simply because we over-think, instead of just weighing our choices with as much of a balance as we can?
